Bachelor of Science (Geoinformatics)

BACKGROUND

M.Sc., M.Phil., and Ph.D. programmes are designed for graduate with various backgrounds such as Land Surveying/Geomatic Engineering, Computer Science, Town Planning, and those with qualifications related to geospatial disciplines. The Department of Geoinformatics is well-equipped with qualified academic staff and facilities to support the student needs in undergoing their studies.

 
STRUCTURE

There are two types of master’s programme that can be enrolled on a full-or part-time or executive basis.

 

i. The Master of Science by taught course offers 6 compulsory and 3 elective subjects together with 1 university’s subject (3 credits). Besides, students are required to submit a dissertation of 6 credits. To graduate, students must complete a total of 40 credits. Assessments are made through tests, assignments, presentations, and a dissertation.

 

ii. The Master of Science by research offers opportunities to candidates to carry out research in various geoinformation related areas. A candidate will be assigned a supervisor to monitor and supervise his/ her research. Candidates are also required to enroll in research methodology course and 1 university course ( 3 credits). To graduate, candidates must complete their research project and submit a thesis.

 

Studies in Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programme can be enrolled as a full-or part-time basis. Candidates are also required to enroll for a research methodology course and 1 university’s subject (3 credits). To graduate, the candidates must complete their research project and submit a thesis.

Principles of GIS, Geospatial Database, Principles of GIS Software Development, Geospatial Data Management, Research Methods in GIS and Master’s Dissertation.

Elective subject:

Photogrammetry & Remote Sensing, GIS Project Management, GIS Applications, Spatial Analysis & Modeling, GIS Implementation, GIS & Public Policy, Structure for Cartographic and User Interface.

University’s subject:

Seminar on Global Development, Economic & Social Issues  (Local Student), Malaysian Society & Culture (Foreign Student).
